Börjetull 2009-12-22
RB Arkitektur wins the invited competition for the development of a new city area in Uppsala with focus on sustainability. Following are extracts from the jury’s motivation:
Particularly interesting are the buildings with terraces on the short sides in the way they create a particular character for the area (…) One wishes to use this to create a green city area with a particular identity. (…) The core strip buildings with a feeling of town houses in the groundfloor and first floor appartments, and more traditionally core strip building appartments on the following floors are exiting and attractive because the habitants on the ground floor get private entrances and lawns. (…) The terrace buildings’ location with the gable walls directed towards the activity park and Fyrisån (a creek) reinforces the green areas in a pleasant way. (…) The point block towardsFyrisvallsgatan/Seminariegatan stands out and becomes a good landmark for the area. (…) The proposition that has the best potential from an environmental perspective and that creates a good and particular character for the area which can make it attractive (…) Oxygen Architects and RB Arkitektur places the area on the map as an exiting and new environmentally friendly city area to live in.
An industrial area remade into a living city area with housing, acitivity, commerce and recreation. A centrally located parc runs along an old railway embankment and marks the historical passage. The parc takes care of the day water and offers the area a meetingplace where habitants can their own little piece of land to cultivate. The buildings are designed with pronounced terraces directed towards the parc and Fyrisån (a creek) giving the area a distinct indentity.
Project in cooperation with Oxygen Architects. Number of appartments: appr 1200.Orderer: HSB, Uppsalahem and Uppsala Kommuns Industrihus.

With an international survey as the foundation we have developed a house with a great degree of flexibility where the private meets the public i different room sequences.
The result was presented at the final of Micasas lecture series Vision 2030 in 2009, a summary of the knowledge that was mediated during the year.
